Tools needed

  • Alcohol wipe or solution

  • Warm, soapy water

  • Paper towels or a clean, dry cloth

  • Squeegee

Step 1: Clean the surface

Thoroughly clean the application area using alcohol wipe. Remove all dirt, grease, and residue, then dry the surface completely with a clean cloth.

Any remaining debris can weaken the adhesive, so take your time and make sure the surface is spotless before continuing.

Step 2: Spray and position the decal

Lightly spray the surface with soapy water or glass cleaner before removing the decal backing.

Peel the backing from the vinyl sticker and carefully position it on the wet surface. The moisture allows you to adjust the placement before fixing it permanently.

Step 3: Squeegee out the liquid

Starting from the centre of the decal, use a squeegee or flat-edged tool to push the liquid outwards towards the edges.

Work slowly and evenly to remove trapped water and air, ensuring the vinyl sits flat against the surface.

Step 4: Final wipe and dry

Once the decal is fully smoothed down, wipe away any excess liquid around the edges and allow the surface to dry.

Avoid touching or disturbing the decal until it has fully bonded.

Your wet application is now complete.

Helpful video guide

If this is your first time applying vinyl, here’s Transporter HQ’s how-to video showing the same wet application method on a vinyl sun strip. The process is identical, even though it’s applied in a different area of the van.
